You're doing wonderful work. Attack no. 1 is very fun and thank you for picking up Glass Mask as well.

Just so you know, official English subtitles are available on HIDIVE for Glass Mask since a few days ago. I know those official streams are region locked, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone rips them and shares the subtitles online, without region locking. I haven't checked the official subtitles yet, but the VHS fansub you used as a base have problems. E.g. 'Tsubaki-hime' should be 'The Lady with the Camellias', the English name of the novel 'La Dame aux Camélias', but the fansub translated the Japanese title literally as 'Princess Camellia'. Episode 2 messed up the name of a main character from 'Little Women'. You have to familiarise yourself with all the works of fiction presented in the series to be able to properly translate it, which would take a huge investment of time. I appreciate the effort you put into this though, and I'm grateful you're working on subtitling 'Attack No. 1', but it might be worth putting that time and energy in a series that doesn't have any official English subtitles. Your About page does say 'Our focus is on the series that have slight chances of being picked up by other groups. We favor quality over speed.' after all. I hope I don't come across as rude, I just wanted to let you know.

Okay, so after doing some research, the play seems to be La Traviata which is only based on The Lady of the Camellias. This is supported by the fact that in the anime the play starts with a dance party and features a character named Alfred (rather than Armand). But the script for La Traviata mentions nothing of the "red/white" camellia dillema (see the passage that starts with "take this flower"), which seems to be unique to The Lady of the Camellias. Perhaps that's the reason why the VHS fansubs decided to go with something inbetween…
Ultimately, I don't think this matters much for the plot of the anime.
I wasn't aware of the HIDIVE subs. Funny how they released first two episodes a day before we did.
VHS fansub has problems
I wasn't aware of that either – I assumed they did a good job.
At any rate, thanks for letting us know. I don't think we're going to drop this, since we've already started it and already put considerable effort (OCR and timing is done), but I'll make sure to take your hints into consideration when releasing a batch :)
You do realize Glass Mask is on Blu-Ray right?
Yeah, those subs are just "OK-ish", IMHO. Not terribad, but not amazing either. There's much left to be desired.
I don't know about you, but I'm not impressed:
What do you mean by pretty dull?
(You mean it was released in US on Bluray, since we've been using JP Bluray RAWs from the beginning.) Yes. You're the fourth person to point that out. We've started subbing it way before we heard about these plans (and it's taking way longer than expected). Since the bluray subs are pretty dull, we continue with our work (basically all episodes are ready, only editing is left).
