Hi! I have a suggestion for you: why don't you upload your releases on MEGA too? It's a safe and reliable website, and I know I'm not the only one who finds direct download more comfortable than Torrent. Happy Halloween!

Thanks for the comment. Free accounts on MEGA offer up to 50 GB, and our releases weigh around 123 GB at the moment (and more are to come :P). To match the monthly transfer we have, we'd have to go with PRO II option, and since we're already paying for a seedbox, we'd like to avoid any further avoidable expenses.
I'm sure the Old Castle people know this but I want to stress this for all the literalist "it already has subs" people: a show/movie having incomprehensible Hong Kong DVD subs is not what most people would define as "already subbed" by virtue of the subs being useless.
Lol, you and the other controlling dude (AV) should be grateful instead of complaining. This website isn't yours, so acting like moderator-wannabes is pointless (and this is not even a forum, just a guest book). It's not that we (I, Erza or whoever) can always know EVERY DETAIL about EVERY fansub release, don't you think? People have different tastes and interests, nobody is interested about every single anime out there. And don't you think that those info could be useful to someone else? Crappy subs are always better than nothing. People have Internet and they can verify if the subs are good or not at every time, but nobody will force nobody to watch badly-subbed series entirely, or to learn japanese. And above all, nobody can force Old Castle staff to sub or let go a certain anime instead of another. Or you think that I and a couple of other anons I don't even know have some sort of superior influence on their choices? LMFAO
EDIT: Just forgot to mention this comment...
"Or you think that I and a couple of other anons I don't even know have some sort of superior influence on their choices? LMFAO"
It's hard to tell who is or isn't a member of the Old Castle team, especially if a new user checks this place out. When I first saw people responding to the request list in the guest book to say a show was subtitled, I legit thought that they were Old Castle staff because that seems like something a staff member would do. When I found out you guys were just fans like the rest of us, it came across as really controlling. I can see now that's not the case, I'm just trying to explain my perspective a bit better.
I'm a controlling mod-wannabe? Really? If anything, I would imagine that random users who aren't even on the Old Castle team who respond to the request list to say an anime is already subtitled are acting more like wannabe moderators. And I am absolutely grateful to Old Castle because I know from experience how difficult translation work can be, especially if you're doing it for free on your own time. Please don't put words in my mouth and think I'm being ungrateful.
Looking back, I can see that I got a bit too heated with Ezra who is technically providing a good service, but I can't help but feel that just stating "(title) is already subtitled" in response to requests comes across as cold and as the person you're replying to pointed out, it completely disregards the quality of the pre-existing subs.
Both sides make valid points. Both sides provide useful information.
Crappy subs are better than nothing
I must disagree with this, at least on general scale. It depends on how crappy the subtitles are. If they have a bad grammar, but are mostly comprehensible - okay. But if they're some unsupervised machine-translated garbage, they might as well not exist IMO.
Now, when "crappy" is "too crappy" is a very subjective thing, so both kinds of comments ā that given series requires subtitles and that it already has subtitles in some form ā are welcome. In the end, comments that the given series has subtitles do not invalidate the given request. We will always prioritize in a way that makes sense. Our refreshment projects such as Glass Mask and Saint Tail take significantly less time than the other projects, which require full translation, and are a kind of breather for us, so it is not a waste even if we take on such series.
Thanks and hopefully this clears things up.
"In the end, comments that the given series has subtitles do not invalidate the given request."
This is what I was concerned about when I got into it with Erza a few weeks ago, and I think this is also what a lot of other fans/users have been concerned about recently. I'm very happy that you have made this clear! I apologize for sowing discord here in the guest book, we all love what you do and I definitely came across quite strongly in somehow reading the actions of an innocent user as something a bit more malicious. My apologies to you and your team!
Thanks for your reply. I agree with you, some "subs" are indeed an eyesore. I don't really care if someone puts an already subbed series (regardless of the subs quality) in the requests list, I just was annoyed because a couple of users are trying to dictate things without any authority: that's why I gave them a slightly vitriolic reply. It's not that I'm interfering with your work, making threats, spamming or something, so I wonder why they're triggered. The last intervention I made about this is only because that weird amount of requests on 25th and 26th October looks like a tease to me, honestly. XD
"I just was annoyed because a couple of users are trying to dictate things without any authority"
That is the exact reason I became annoyed a few weeks ago -- it seemed to me that some users were trying to dictate things without authority by attempting to influence Old Castle to focus on unsubtitled shows. I didn't realize that you guys were doing this just to provide general information -- it really comes across to me as trying to sway the direction of the group. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. But I was only speaking up because I felt the same way you apparently do. I think that's actually kind of interesting.
Seems that someone just checked AniDB's database from A to Z to make requests, lol. Some titles don't even have a single word about the plot on their data pages (and anywhere else, apparently), are you serious? XD Anyway, Choudenji Robot Combattler V and Makiba no Shoujo Katri have already been subbed. Anime 80 Nichikan Sekai Isshuu, Kagaku Kyuujo-tai TechnoVoyager, Kashi no Ki Mokku, Pure-tou no Nakama-tachi, Ribbon no Kishi and both series of Mitsubachi Maya no Bouken are available with english dub just in case.
Just put in a request for Burning Blood.
It id the other only boxing anime Osamu Dezaki did beside Ashita no Joe, is only a 3 episode OVA though each episode is 41 mins long so the equivalent of 6 episodes. Had no idea it existed till just now checking his MAL page.
Shippuu! Iron Leaguer has already been subbed.
I requested Iron Leaguer because the current fansubs for it are less than ideal. The first 16 episodes have a very lousy translation that is missing some lines (using ??? as a replacement for some words) using broken, incomplete English -- in a few instances, they transliterate "violence" as "bio lance" which is just silly. These first 16 episodes are seemingly only available using old, bad encodes. The remainder of the show has a better translation, but it's still a bit shoddy in places likely because it was translated into English from a Chinese translation ("mental health" instead of the correct "maintenance" is another error it contains). In addition, the show is difficult to find for download. It's all available on YouTube, but for downloading purposes, the subs have absolutely no seeds and the raws on Nyaa have only one seeder and it took me forever to download them.
Another fansub group started Iron Leaguer from scratch; this would have been a definitive release, but they only got about a quarter of the way through the show 4 years ago and stopped, and these files are now also difficult to download due to a lack of seeders.
TLDR: I know that Iron Leaguer has already been subbed, but I feel that Old Castle would do a good job cleaning up the existing translations, finally presenting the entire show under one translation group, and actually translating it from the Japanese instead of relying on a Japanese --> Chinese --> English translation. That said, it was just an innocent request. I know Old Castle just has the request list up for fun, I only expect them to tackle projects they want to tackle, but I figured it'd be good to generate interest for this show in order to make it more easily available and presented in a better way.
The series is fully available on 9Anime and Kissanime, and maybe some other (illegal) streaming sites. I don't know for the subs quality since I'm not interested in this series, but I think that unsubbed titles should be a priority. :)
You are allowed to feel that unsubbed shows should be a priority, but to that, I will say the following...
1) You're not a member of Old Castle, and neither am I, so as fans of their work all we have is opinions; 2) Old Castle is currently releasing a new sub for Saint Tail which has already been subtitled in the past, meaning they are open to fixing and re-timing existing subs using better encodes for certain shows; 3) You personally were told by someone in Old Castle that "the request list is nothing binding, so even if it contains some requests that are for things that were already subbed or something, it's okay. We'll prioritize our choices where it makes sense"; 4) You can feel however you feel about Old Castle's projects but I've seen you going around this guestbook just to parrot off that certain titles are already subtitled and I don't think that's helpful because most of the people requesting already-subbed shows KNOW that they're already subbed and are looking to groups like Old Castle to revise them, as they are clearly open to doing.
As for Iron Leaguer, I doubt Old Castle will fix the subs (though the Old Castle --> Silver Castle connection would be really interesting) because it doesn't seem like a show they would want to do based on their past projects, but anything is possible. I only just started watching it and I didn't ever expect I would like it, but it's slowly becoming one of my favorite anime titles, so just suggesting and talking about it like this is enough for me.
I just said my opinion, I'm not here to impose anything on anyone lol. Ew, people.
I'm also trying to be useful to someone by informing them that the anime they want to see are already available somewhere else when it's the case. And like another user said, AniDB isn't always reliable: according to the site, Ginga Sengoku Gun Yuuden Rai is unsubbed, but it's false (and I know it because I watched it english subbed few years ago). This guest books is open and free, and I'm not harming or insulting anyone. I'm not a troll, so If someone of the team (and not a random dude, sorry) will explicitly ask me to stop doing it I won't do it anymore, period.
thank you so much for the Umi no Yami, Tsuki na Kage OVA!!
